One of our newest projects is an early 1900s California craftsman home with a huge amount of architectural millwork that has been painted white. Even though we love natural wood, this millwork isn’t original, so we’ve decided to leave it painted. Instead, we’ll introduce contrast with dark wallpapers and paints.
Because of the age and location of the house, we’re keen to use a floral pattern above the paneling in the living room. However, patterns that feature flora and fauna have a certain sweetness when rendered in light and pastel colors- and that will not do for this project. We’ve been looking at florals on a dark ground, and love how sophisticated and moody they feel. These are some of our current favorites.
