All too often the homes featured in shelter magazines and design books resemble movie sets or museums – this perfection implies that no one lives in them, let alone anyone with children. Family Living, a book written by interior stylist Judith Wilson, is a refreshing break from the unrealistic perfection that reigns in the design world (as are all of Wilson’s books). The spaces that appear throughout the book are comfortable, casual, and imperfect, yet thoughtfully planned and elegantly composed. These spaces are made up of beautiful things, but they are not museums…children can live freely in them. The furnishings and accessories are timeless, durable, and appropriately scaled to accommodate the size and needs of growing familes. Together Wilson and photographer Debi Treloar prove that functional, child-friendly spaces can be both stylish and sophisticated.
