Although draperies have always been used in design, there was a period of time between the late 1980s through the early 2000s in which window treatments became more minimal. Sleeker alternatives, such as stacked duets, blinds, and roman shades, were favored. During this time draperies developed a reputation for being dated – your grandmother’s décor. Over the last couple of years, draperies have become a component of high style yet again.
Sleek draperies made of gorgeous wools that have been carefully tailored into classic box pleats, natural linens and silk sheers that drape effortlessly from soft, relaxed pleats, and beautifully patterned graphic wovens combined with natural roman shades are some of the styles that can be seen in traditional and contemporary settings alike. So, the bottom line is that drapes are back – and in full force! Embrace them! Love them!
