While shopping with a client this weekend, we ran across a pair of vintage end tables labeled John Stuart, Inc. Unfamiliar with the maker, we both loved the proportions and beautiful hardware on the drawers. Details like dovetailed construction and 50% off an already LOW price for the pair made our decision very easy: the tables went home with us thirty minutes later. That afternoon, I spent a little time on 1stdibs nosing around for other pieces with the same label. I wasn’t surprised to find fantastic things with price tags to match. I was surprised, however, to discover that Stuart also owned Widdicomb, another major furnishings company, and to come across so many wonderful midcentury Scandanavian designs that I hadn’t seen before.
As it turns out, our tables were a pretty major score! This client definitely has good furniture karma (I think I should take her shopping with me more often). We’ll share the tables with you once the room is finished . . .
