The Miller House, located in Columbus, Indiana, was designed by Eero Saarinen for the late industrialist J. Irwin Miller and his wife Xenia in 1952. A spectacular example of mid-century modern architecture, the home features interiors that seamlessly meld Saarinen’s clean, contemporary lines with the graphic prints and interior styling of architect and textile designer, Alexander Girard. Girard’s interior details, including the addition of the client’s own pieces – collections of art, commissioned rugs, textiles gathered during travels – add a level of warmth to the hard surfaces and open plan of the home. The Miller House is now a museum open to the public that is curated by the Indianapolis Museum of Art. For more images and information, see the museum’s website: IMA.
