This spectacular property perched in the San Juan archipelago north of Seattle was in dire need of a refresh. Mostly untouched since its construction in the 1980s, the house was sensitively sited but dated and slightly awkward inside. After purchasing the property, the homeowners hired Prentiss Balance Wickline to remodel the main house and ADU, and OreStudios was then asked to provide finishes, fixtures and decoration for the interiors.
With their previous residence done in a very different period style, the homeowners brought only a few pieces of art and a table with them. Everything else was selected for these spaces. Warm wood finishes and chalky paints prevent a feeling of chill from entering the home, and handmade tiles and textured papers provide visual interest and variation. Furnishings were specified for comfort and ease, with a cozy, low-maintenance perspective in mind.

New windows and sliding doors increase the connection to the site, while gracious furnishings offer refuge from the elements.

A simple palette of reclaimed floors and white oak cabinets and millwork create a warm backdrop for handmade tiles and contemporary furnishings.
